I’d already decided previously and agreed with Tom that day 2 was my “me day” and I think he wanted the same. So we split up for the majority of the day and he went and did his own thing. Me? Well I went in splash Landings waterpark for the morning (which sadly means no photos, because, well it’s a waterpark!) but then I decided to be shiny (not for the first time in park) and wear PVC jeans and new rocks to go around the park. I took the monorail up to the entrance. Selfie, you say? Of course I did! You don’t wear PVC jeans and NOT capture the experience!
It was very busy – a number of schools were off due to an INSET day so I decided to get a silver fast pass thus guaranteeing me a ride on each of the big 6 (I had to add Nemesis on separately as that doesn’t feature on any fastpasses being the new coaster).
So I started with Th13teen and Rita… An odd way round, I know, considering I virtually always start my day at Smiler/Oblivion – but hey, it was an odd day! Of course it was after the 13th hour so Th13teen was #unavailable as usual. I spoke to the guy who was guarding the queue line entrance and he said I would be able to ride any of the others on my pass twice. Wicker Man it is then!
So I just rode RITA (Alton Towers Intamin Rollercoaster acronym, backwards, apparently). She’s a fierce beast; but I do enjoy RITA. 0-60 in under 2 seconds is phenomenal!
Next was across to X Sector for Oblivion (I’ve climbed that) then Smiler. I was trying to avoid Tom as he was in that area too. Anyhow, Oblivion first. It was a 40 minute queue. The fastpass was really paying off here! The nice thing with oblivion is you get two ride photos too. A close up, and one of the whole train.
Then on to Smiler. Tom was in the single rider queues as I was in the main queue just after the merge point. It was a very long single rider queue! Another cool on ride photo, and the nice thing with both Smiler and Oblivion is they’re quite wide crops too.
Now was the time to cross the park to Wicker Man. Two rides of course, as Th13teen was still #unavailable and to be honest, it’s my least favourite coaster at the park. So two on Wicker Man then!
My least favourite ride photos come from Wicker Man. I always find the crop top tight.
My Nemesis Reborn fastpass was booked for 3:15pm so I decided to head down to Forbidden Valley for that. Another 40 minute queue this time – dodged thanks to fastpass! And my absolute favourite rollercoaster ever gets some love. I would have rode it more, but I’m having a “bad piercing day” and it does beat your head against the restraints.
I do love the new Nemesis photo location, and the little video you get from the photo pass (paid subscribers only, at the end of the post, sorry – too much shiny PVC for free subs!).
Finally, down to the very bottom of the park and Galactica; a coaster I don’t have much love for – and neither do Alton Towers based on the lack of love it’s been shown over the last few years. I suspect a minor retheme or repaint coming soon. It’s a nice ride though, nothing too intense.
Again, the photo is too tightly cropped for my liking.
And thus endeth my second day – except for a coffee – and cake, of course! Plus a chat with an awesome alt couple who loved my trousers and boots! Much different from the usual “are you hot in those trousers?” or “are those boots heavy?”. Answers are no, and no!
I did buy some merch, despite promising not to – but the Nemesis Reborn hat is embroidered!
Tom came and joined me and we then caught a last surprise ride – Curse of Alton Manor reopened after being a little unreliable for the last two days, and we rode that.
Tom had a last ride on Nemesis. I had other plans… and wow did it work!
We finished the day with a game of the rollercoaster themed mini Golf. 17 holes. It should have been 18 but the Galactica hole was #unavailable. I won, by 3 shots.
And thus after two absolutely fun filled (and slightly shiny) days it was time for home.
Ironically, I put the PVC jeans in my bag as a last minute thing. I had planned to wear latex to the Rollercoaster Restaurant (and my latex was indeed in my bag) but the lateness of the Wicker Man track walk stopped that plan, and then we didn’t even get time to change in the hotel room, so we both went to the rollercoaster restaurant in our day clothes and smothered in Lynx deodorant – shower in a can – like teenagers!
So as promised, for you paying subscribers, here’s the full set of photos AND videos… Some shiny. Some very shiny. Enjoy!
