Climbing to the Skies

Donate via Gofundme

On 10th of May 2024, just after my 51st birthday, I’ll be attempting to climb the lift hill of The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

At 72 metres high it’s currently the tallest rollercoaster in the United Kingdom, and at Blackpool Pleasure Beach it stands in and amongst some truly unique and historic rides including the 100 year old Big Dipper, the world’s first Ghost Train, and the iconic 120 year old Sir Hiram Maxim’s Captive flying machine which is one of the oldest still operating rides in the whole world.

For the climb I’ll be wearing climbing harnesses and PPE, and a small group of us will walk the full length of the lift hill, pausing every 50ft to get our breath back.

I plan to live stream at least some of the climb to my Twitch channel at www.twitch.tv/nomenloony

Will you sponsor me? I’m raising money to buy a smart telescope for Mexborough and Swinton Astronomical Society so we can demonstrate to the public just how easily accessible the skies are to amateur astronomers.

If fundraising goes really well I’d love to buy a couple of these items! You never know…

So go sponsor me – rollercoaster enthusiast and astronomer – and I’ll thank you every time we use one of the scopes.

Please donate here and help this amazing organisation to bring astronomy to the general public.
