Both a Solar Sunday and the Perseids meteor shower in a single day. I felt like a real astronomer!
First, Old Moor for some phenomenal solar observing. The sun is really being a show-off at the moment, and with the right equipment (a solar filter or a really dark grade of welding mask) you can easily see two naked eye sunspots.
Yesterday we had Hydrogen Alpha, Magnesium and White Light telescopes all pointed straight at the sun! This image was taken using my pixel fold just held up to the filter! No telescope, just maximum zoom.
Then the evening fell and after a non-shiny-Sunday due to the phenomenal heat build up over the day, I had planned to go to the observatory to see the Perseids.
We were treated to some really nice meteors including one I caught on camera. Again, pixel fold, long exposure mode. There’s also the Andromeda Galaxy and H and χ Perseii visible.
Just after it started to cloud over for us, this happened. Typical huh?
