Today, in the building heat, we had a Solar Sunday booked at RSPB Old Moor in Manvers. A few scopes built up, one running Hydrogen Alpha and a couple of visible light ones running filters.
The sun itself is quite active at the moment, and I grabbed some photos with my Galaxy Fold looking straight down the eyepiece (obviously not good quality compared to a primary focus photo, but you get the idea)
The yellow images are taken in visible light, the red ones in hydrogen alpha.
That really impresses me. That is the first time I can recall seeing the sun in hydrogen alpha light.
H alpha is a really cool light to see the sun in because you can see the atmosphere. It’s just very difficult to observe in too as the wavelength is very narrow and the focus is difficult to achieve.
