Storm Ciaran at Alton Towers 🆓

1

My final trip was impending when this threat appeared out in the Atlantic Ocean. Tightening isobars indicated it was going to be a good one.

All indications were that it was going to drop it’s guts all over us during Wednesday night and Thursday. So what do we do? Go to Alton Towers of course!

Wearing a fairly waterproof coat and my well waxed leather trousers I headed out to pick the guys up on a dull but dry morning.

Lauz & Thomas this time. This should be interesting as Lauz is a vlogger.

We did the Hartington run again, arriving at the towers at around 9:20 and headed up to the entrance. After mandatory coffee it was time for Smiler!

The queue cage was rather flooded, but we had our first ride of what was to prove to be an interesting day.

Continuing on and bearing in mind the park was rather busy, we headed over to SubTerra and Galactica (out of order for my usual way round) and it was as we were riding Galactica that the rain started; light at first, but within an hour it was heavy and constant.

By the time we came off River Rapids it was absolutely pissing it down, although the result was that everyone there looked like they were wearing leather trousers!

As the day went on it got wetter and wetter, until at 4pm we had our last rollercoaster ride with a very fast and very painful rain soaked ride on Rita. The rain was painful on our faces and the light was so poor that it looked like a dark ride!

We finished the day with a ride on Gangsta Granny and a couple of runs round The Curse. To dry off, you understand…

The run home was a very interesting one as rain had closed many roads, but thankfully being in the van with it’s somewhat higher road position and improved fording depth we made it home just after 8.

Anyhow, here’s the photos… Enjoy. We did!
